A Life Worth Living... Three Month Old Mariah Faith

Today I brought our Baby Mariah for her regular vaccine shots to OM (Ospital ng Maynila, where it happens that our pediatrician is the best friend of my wife's niece). She is three months old now, very young and full of life.

What caught my attention there as I walked around is the "reality of aging" upon seeing outside the OPD building an old man sleeping in one of the benches and also a child facing the man seated on the floor. I can't help myself not to capture the moments, thanks I had my Motorola RAZR-V6 with me.

As of this writing (AOTW), I got an email from Dr. Jose Fadul (From: Fadul, Jose A Date: Wed, Oct 21, 2009 at 4:53 PM) about a book he just finished reading: “The Art of Aging” by Dr. Sherwin B. Nuland.

I think what JFadul said is very true that "aging, some think, may in fact be encoded into our genes." And not only that, "this may be how nature guarantees that we don't overstay our tenure." The challenge now is JFadul's invitation that "we should strive for a life worth living."

As I was inside the OPD building I saw a poster of Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines, saying "wag mag bulag-bulagan."

When we turn a blind eye (nag bulag-bulagan) to pretend aging does not exist, then we will not have a worth-living life to live. Since the truth of aging scares us, aging process is not something to be scared of. Pero dapat tanggapin at harapin ang katotohanan na ito. As JFadul is saying that Nuland claims that the key to aging is not in living forever, so let us face this truth that life is not so much how long we live, but how meaningfully we live our lives even if life is short. Only in facing this truth that we can have the ultimate anti-aging at our disposal. So let us take the challenge on how "we should strive for a life worth living."
