Last January 31 – 01 February 2009 at the SMX Convention Centre in Pasay City I had the opportunity to be part of volunteer-organizer team of The British Council Teachers' Club with Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, and the British Alumni Association) for the 1st Philippine International English Language Conference.

It is a gathering of English experts and practitioners from all over the world. It aims to bring to the fore, issues on how English is being taught in the classroom and how it is needed in the workplace, especially in the BPO sector.

One of the Plenary speakers includes David Nunan Chair Professor of Applied Linguistics and Director of the English Centre at the University of Hong Kong,

"There were two things in my (Nunan) favor: I had a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics / Language Education (a comparative rarity in those days), and what I lacked in depth of experience, I made up for in breadth. I had worked as a teacher, researcher, teacher educator, curriculum developer and materials writer in Australia, English and Thailand.
